First, let me say that I am no chef. I don't like to cook, and if it wasn't for my wonderful hubby, I would probably eat PBJs and Lucky Charms every night.
Maybe that's why I'm so excited to have made something. In fact, I'm sharing it on Monday Made It (a few days late...). I don't know if it's because I'm on Spring Break and have extra time or because I watched Julie and Julia yesterday, but I found myself on Pinterest looking up recipe ideas. Then I found this gem from a blog called South your Mouth:
Oh my delicious!!! So I got in my car and took a trip to the friendly Krogers down the road and picked up:
- 2 pounds of strawberries
- 2 sleeves of graham crackers
- 1 8-oz. pack of cream cheese at room temp
- 1 14-oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
- 2 3/4-oz. (4 servings) packs of instant cheesecake flavored pudding (which I couldn't find that size, so I got 2 1-oz. packs and just used half of the second pack)
- 3 cups of milk
- 1 12-oz. carton of Cool Whip, which I misread and only got an 8-oz. carton. My bad.
Step 1: Cut the strawberries. The recipe said 1/4 inch slices. Umm...looks close enough to me!
Oh no! There are all of these bottoms leftover. Whatever shall I do?! Guess I will just have to eat them. Sacrifice.
Step 2: Layer the bottom of a 9x13 pan with graham crackers. Easy enough.
Step 3: Open the cream cheese. This was a struggle. Wish I had seen the opening instructions before I went to town on the packaging with the scissors.
Step 4: Use the electric mixer to mix the cream cheese and evaporated milk. Hand mixing will not work no matter how much you want to avoid getting the mixer out.
Just a suggestion...make sure the mixer is turned off when you plug it in. Oops.
Step 5: Mix in milk and pudding packs.
Cooking selfie!
Step 6: Fold in Cool Whip. What does fold mean, you ask. I didn't know either, but apparently it means to use a whisk or a rubber spatula. Thank you, Google.
Step 7: Layering time! Graham crackers, yummy white concoction, strawberries, repeat.
TADA!!!!!
Now it has to chill for 6-8 hours. Let the agony of waiting begin!
Wait a second...does that say this will serve 20?? I hope my hubby is hungry! =)
Looks DELISH. I'm coming right over! It won't feed anywhere NEAR twenty. You'll be lucky to get ten servings... HA. See you around. Kathleen
